Embarking from the traditional classroom setting to the forefront of Ai technology and entrepreneurship is no small feat, especially while managing a full-time teaching load. Meet Jake Chamberlain, an educator with 15 years of experience from Tasmania, Australia, specialising in High school Technologies and Health and Physical Education. Jake’s story is not about leaving the classroom, as he’s still teaching and running his side hustle simultaneously. Jake’s story is about transforming his insights and experiences into a revolutionary new venture— The Teachers’ Assistant AI.

Unveiling the Classroom Struggles
Jake’s journey began with a profound understanding of the silent battles teachers fight daily. A leader in Technologies, Curriculum, Reporting, and assessment, he witnessed the tireless grind of educators, a dance between curriculum demands and the ever-expanding landscape of diverse learning needs. Over the last decade of teaching, Jake has worked in various Leadership roles, and it’s this experience that has given him insight into so many perspectives of what works well, where the pressures are, and how teachers overcome them.
Despite the joys and rewards of teaching, Jake also encountered firsthand the challenges and pressures that educators face daily. During his time as head of Technologies, Jake noticed the relentless demands of curriculum planning and resource creation and the struggle to address diverse learning needs within the classroom. It became apparent and actual to what the data shows that teachers are tired, time poor and short-cutting, which is reflected in their practice.
“I saw the exhaustion, the shortcuts, and the impact on teaching quality. It hit me—teachers need support, not just in curriculum but in navigating the overwhelming pressures of the modern classroom.”
A merging of Passion and Technology
Inspired by his devotion to education, technology, and well-being, Jake stumbled upon AI, particularly ChatGPT, over 18 months ago. It wasn’t just understanding; it was an obsession—an insatiable thirst for unravelling the mysteries of AI, its limits, and how it could bridge traditional teaching and the future. Jake investigated further and found ways to lighten his load as a teacher by leveraging Ai technology.
“AI wasn’t just a tool; it became my partner in efficiency. It accelerated my learning, completing tasks in a fraction of the time. The idea struck me—why not share this power with teachers and create something revolutionary?”

The Teachers Assistant AI was born
Thus, The Teachers Assistant AI was born—a haven for educators drowning in content creation, curriculum alignment, and the evolving and continual demands of the teaching landscape. It was more than just a platform; it was a sanctuary where the Australian Framework for AI in schools met the pulse of real classroom needs. The first of its kind is to really address the Australian market and support classroom teachers daily. The transition from teaching to embarking on this entrepreneurial journey was challenging. Yet, it was fueled by a conviction that by leveraging AI, Jake could create a platform that supported teachers in content creation and curriculum alignment and fostered a safe and effective learning environment aligned with the Australian Framework for AI in schools.
“I sensed a gap in the market, a niche that transcends what the ‘big’ tech companies might envision. What that is, I’ll keep close to the chest for now.”
From Educator to Entrepreneur
Jake’s transition wasn’t a smooth sail. Lack of business experience and setbacks with developers posed challenges. But perseverance, a supportive wife, and technological allies paved the way. Balancing full-time teaching with platform responsibilities became possible through automation and a dedicated technical advisor.
“Every setback fueled the fire. When that first subscription came in, it was more than a milestone—it was a validation that teachers saw the value in simplifying their lives through Teachers Assistant AI. Fortunately for me, I have an amazingly supportive wife. Easily over a thousand hours of listening to my ideas, frustrations and victories. In saying this, I am still teaching full-time and fortunate enough that technology has allowed the automation of even the administration of the platform and support from our technical advisor handling portions of the website maintenance.“
Transferable Skills of an Educator
Jake’s empathy and understanding became his guiding stars as a third-generation educator. While AI couldn’t attend professional development days, Teachers Assistant AI covered almost everything else, aligning itself with the heartbeat of classroom needs. With Teachers Assistant AI, Jake aims to bridge the gap between technology and education, providing Australian teachers, schools, and departments of education with accessibility to all levels of AI literacy, a medium that empowers teachers in a way of consistency that consistently embodies an evidenced-based approach and removes the level of error from poor AI instruction that will relate to poor resources that could be student-facing! It’s about creating a future where teachers can dedicate more time to what they do best—teaching and inspiring students—supported by AI-driven solutions that simplify their workflow and enhance educational outcomes but it will never replace the human aspect of teaching.
“AI can’t replace the human touch, the understanding of a teacher facing the challenges in real-time. That’s where Teachers Assistant AI steps in—covering the gaps, leaving teachers to do what they do best—inspire and teach.”

The Entrepreneurial Crescendo
Jake acquired skills through online courses, podcasts, and hands-on learning. As AI gained recognition, networking opportunities blossomed. Conversations with like-minded educators became regular, painting a vibrant picture of collaboration and growth.
“The journey wasn’t easy. Setbacks were aplenty, but with each trial, I refined the vision. The feeling when everything finally clicked was a symphony of achievement—unparalleled and exhilarating. This has been scary, fast, and not without challenges, being behind in experience in many aspects of a business. My wife is at me to find someone to ‘buy-in’ and share the workload it has amassed with its popularity, but where would you find such a person?“
Being a solo entrepreneur, Jake initially had limited networking opportunities. However, from late October 2023, as AI began to be more widely understood and with the introduction of the AI Framework, like-minded educators started reaching out to Jake through the platform and seeking advice. Since then, Jake has regularly met online with new individuals interested in all aspects of the platform and AI in education at least 1-2 times a week. “These interactions are primarily with school representatives who are considerate enough to schedule meetings outside my work hours. They are keen to learn and find value in what I share about AI in education.“
Motivation Amid Uncertainty
Jake’s initial drive was fear of failure. The ever-evolving landscape of technology added an element of uncertainty. Yet, he recognised the potential for growth in that uncertainty. It catalysed resilience, determination, and an unwavering forward-looking mindset.
“Entrepreneurship is a risky endeavour, but every risk I take is a step toward making a positive impact. It’s not just about Teachers Assistant AI; it’s about contributing to the future of education.”
Getting started was Jake’s biggest challenge. He encountered numerous setbacks, including unsuccessful attempts with three web builders and four developers. Even his brother, a developer himself, couldn’t find the time to support Jake. This period of trial and error spanned several months, during which he continued to map out the modules and plan the functionality. When everything finally clicked into place, the sense of achievement was unparalleled.
“The subscription of my first user marked a significant milestone, providing the first validation that a teacher out there sees the value in what I’ve built to simplify their work life. There was no better feeling than that.“

Positive Outcomes Amid Challenges
Jake hasn’t left teaching yet, but a commitment shift might be on the horizon as Teachers Assistant AI grows. Positive school feedback validates the platform’s utility and the ripple effect it creates in families’ lives. Jake explained very soon that he may need to reduce his teaching commitments and focus more on managing the business side of the platform. The positive feedback from schools that have integrated the platform into their daily operations has been incredibly affirming for Jake, and his hard work has paid off. This validation is not just a testament to the platform’s utility but the positive ripple effect it creates in the lives of families, making all the challenges and efforts worthwhile. Jake is a realist and knows the ever-changing technology environment, but he continues to challenge himself and learn more daily to keep up with this. “I constantly remind myself that with the rapid advancement of technology, there’s a real possibility that my efforts could be overshadowed by the next big innovation. Entrepreneurship is inherently risky, but I take great pride in taking this risk and putting myself out there. It’s a journey that requires resilience, and I’m committed to navigating through the challenges with determination and a forward-looking mindset.
Advice for Aspiring Transcendents
Jake offers advice for teachers eyeing the exit stage—embrace uncertainty, reflect on motivations, and recognise the value of transferable skills. Each transition is an opportunity for growth, with the unique ability to make a difference beyond the classroom. Embrace the uncertainty as a sign of potential growth. Building a business takes time and resilience. Sometimes you need to take the risk to be successful. “Reflect on what truly motivates you and the impact you wish to make beyond the classroom. Remember, the skills and insights you’ve gained as a teacher are precious and transferable to numerous fields. Career transitions can open new avenues for making a difference, so take calculated risks, seek support from mentors, and believe in your ability to adapt and thrive in new environments. Your journey as an educator has uniquely equipped you to face change with resilience and creativity.“
The Skills needed
Most of the skills Jake needed were in web design and workflow and a diverse understanding of our education system, which he already had. The journey of learning is never-ending. Jake is completing some short online machine learning and Artificial Intelligence courses. But his favourite is learning my podcast, “I use AI to build my own, developing how I would like the text relatable to me and my goals. Use our text-to-speech access and listen to the MP3 in my favourite voice!”
When asked what resources and platforms have helped Jake the most, he undoubtedly describes his own platform as the best educational tool. Building specialist AI tools to work for teachers, he has also built an army of AI tools that complete complex tasks: “If I am honest, it’s my platform. I have built an array of AI tools, and they also act as my ‘tutor’ in the areas of growth for me.”

Navigating Work-Life Harmony
Maintaining equilibrium during the transition requires clear boundaries, task prioritisation, and embracing flexibility. Jake suggests regular self-reflection to ensure personal well-being remains a priority alongside professional goals. Maintaining work-life balance during transition involves setting clear boundaries, prioritising tasks, and embracing flexibility. It’s crucial to allocate time for rest and hobbies to recharge. Challenges include managing time effectively and resisting the urge to overcommit.
“Balancing act is an art. It involves juggling responsibilities but also recognizing when to step back and recharge. It’s a dance of priorities, and finding that rhythm is key. Strategy-wise, I recommend regular self-reflection to adjust priorities and ensure personal well-being remains a priority alongside professional goals.”
Jake’s Vision Beyond the Classroom
Looking forward, Jake envisions Teachers Assistant AI as becoming an integral part of Australian education—a genuine support system for teachers, refining resources, aiding curriculum planning, and seamlessly integrating AI into classrooms. Collaboration with educators and educational bodies is the roadmap to continuous improvement and nationwide impact. By collaborating with educators and educational bodies, I hope to continuously improve and expand our reach, positively impacting teaching and learning across the country. The journey doesn’t end; it evolves. My long-term goal is to contribute meaningfully to education in Australia through Teachers Assistant AI. It’s not just about the platform; it’s about transforming the educational landscape.”

Challenges, Setbacks, and Resilience
In the symphony of transformation, Jake faced sacrifices of time and passion. Balancing the demands of Teachers Assistant AI with personal interests required strict time management. Overcoming this challenge involved dedication to hobbies, a reminder that a well-rounded life fuels creativity and persistence.
“Every obstacle was a piece in the puzzle. Sacrifices were made, but they were part of the process. Striking the right balance between personal and professional pursuits became a balancing act I mastered along the way.”
